How Did You Get Started?
One day I tried to lift an engine block with a friend and pulled my back. I couldn't walk for 2 weeks. The doctor recommended that I start lifting weights. At first I went to a small health club in my area, but didn't really like it. Then I met some guy who was huge and worked out at the hardest core gym I ever saw! These guys were so big, some of them were 350lbs and benching over 600 and doing behind the neck presses with 315 for reps. .When you train with people bigger and stronger, you advance much quicker. The gym was nothing but hardcore bodybuilders, powerlifters, boxers and martial artists. Needless to say, lots of egos and lots of attitudes, but everyone pretty much stood by you when you competed. I wish I could find a gym like that now!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Without a doubt, the best routine was the one that Dr. Fred Hatfield taught me when I was in California. He was not only a physician, but also the first man to officially squat 1000 lbs. He came up with a way of training 31 days a months without getting over trained. So far, so good.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I actually don't take many supplements. The only thing that is really going to make you big, or small is food. They way I eat, when and how much is, in my opinion, significantly more important then worry about some new supplement when you dont even know what the heck it is!
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Bodybuilding is the greatest stress relief I have known. It's art, science
and sport all wrapped up into one, and when people see you on stage, they
'think' they are seeing a body contest. But in reality, its one of the
greatest mental challenges that exsists.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
Well, at 37 yo, I'll be glad to stay in good shape. I would still like to compete and maybe be a positive inspiration to others.
