How Did You Get Started?

Years of having many male friends naturally brought me into the weight room. Since I didn't play volleyball in high school I used that season to hit the weight room everyday. That was 6 years ago and my passion for lifting has grown. It has turned into a hobby that I love and would like to make a career out of.

Last year I saw pictures of a fellow gym member who had done a figure competition and I decided that I wanted to do that too. That was the beginning of my journey competing in figure and I am getting very excited to do another show.

The boys got me in the gym and they help me stay there too. I have so many wonderful friends at the gym and they set the bar extremely high by their intense and consistent workouts. I have also been blessed with a supportive and hardworking boyfriend who consistently reminds me of my goals and reassures me that I can reach them.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

Day 1: Chest/Cardio/Abs/Calves
Day 2: Arms/Cardio
Day 3: Legs
Day 4: Abs/Cardio
Day 5: Back/Shoulders/Abs/Calves/Cardio
Day 6: Off


Day 7: Glutes/Cardio

** Wide stance, toes pointed out, holding bar between legs, one hand in front, one hand behind, squat to parallel. After 8 reps, switch hands.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

Off season I try to eat clean, making sure I get enough protein and snacking on fruits and veggies. While I am prepping for a show I do a three day carb rotation. It consists of regular, high, and low carb days. The regular day is as follows:

Meal 1:
Meal 2:
Meal 3:
Meal 4:
Meal 5:
Meal 6:

High Carb Day: add 1/4 cup raisins to meal 1, add 1 orange to meal 3
Low Carb Day: subtract 1/2 cup oatmeal from meals 1 and 3, no apple in meal 4, no brown rice in meal 5

I eat as many veggies as I want, along with sugar-free Jell-O.

Why Do You Love Fitness?

I love the personal strength I gain from working out. It makes me a stronger person, mentally and physically.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

As a college student I observe a vast amount of others binge drinking, eating fast food/highly processed food, and not exercising. I have witnessed first-hand the effects of a poor diet (weight gain, stomach pains, and constant fatigue) and I have decided that I never want that to be me. I am not the average 21 year old and many of my friends cannot understand my lack of desire to drink or eat fast food. My motivation is much bigger than short term satisfaction. I have high fitness goals, and to achieve them I make distinct choices to put me in the best position to achieve them.

As a community health major I am going into a field that puts significant value on living a healthy lifestyle. I want those I work with to see a direct correlation between my lifestyle and what I am saying. I believe that actions speak much louder than words.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

I am never satisfied with where I am at. I am a driven perfectionist and I always need to be pushing myself to achieve the next step. I want to achieve my goals to prove to myself that I can do it. There are many unsupportive people in my life who don't understand my passion for fitness and I hope that along the way I will show them too. Show them that this isn't a waste of time and that I have the heart and dedication to make my goals turn into reality.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I am going to keep competing in figure shows with the hope of getting my pro card. My plans include winning the overall figure title at several shows, getting sponsored, becoming a fitness model and appearing on the cover of Oxygen Magazine as well as Muscular Development. I want to be hired as a model/representative and writer for a bodybuilding magazine and appear at expos such as the Arnold Classic and The Olympia. I also plan on opening my own gym complete with a smoothie bar (it will use my personalized recipes) and I will teach classes there as well.

There is not one part of me that feels like these goals are too big or too far out of reach. I have done things that I never thought I could do and I know that if I put my mind to it I can accomplish absolutely anything.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?

No excuses. We are all busy whether that means going to school, working, raising a family, running a business, etc. There will always be a reason not to go to the gym, but you need to decide what is important to you. If being fit and healthy is important, then you will make working out a priority no matter what your circumstances. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?

Jamie Eason. She is inspiringly fit, beautiful, and charismatic. Seeing how she has overcome obstacles is very encouraging to me.

My boys at the gym. They may not be famous or pro, but they are my personal heroes. You will never hear them brag about how much they squatted, or how lean they are. The results speak for themselves and I am more proud of them than they know.
